William Brion Fine Art

Artist Bio

William Brion, born on Long Island, New York, came to California in 1952 where he enjoyed living on the cliffs above the beach at Agate Street in Laguna Beach. His mother, who had worked for The Disney Animation Studios, was instrumental in his exploration of the different mediums in art. William graduated from Whittier College in 1974 with a degree in Art and Art History. At Whittier, he explored the many forms of artistic expression in Art History and began to assimilate and articulate certain artistic influences of preferred periodic artists into his work. He relished the realism of Andrew Wyeth and his weathered structures and cherished the beauty of the Impressionists in their attempt to capture the moment with dashes of “lighted” paint.

William rounded out his artistic background with classes at Long Beach state including The Art of India and The Art of Oceania. He adopted the Indian circular artistic technique of the “Mandala” to bring calm and a sense of serenity to his work.

Taking a class in photography by celebrated fashion photographer Robert Randall helped William improve his photographic compositional skills, and he also studied with Laguna Beach local Watercolor artist Gerald Lilly in 1972.

William’s work is an expression of his love for the local coastline and has been exhibited in many area galleries and The Laguna Museum of Art.

William and his family have lived in San Clemente since 1981.
